General Description Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs highly complex (senior‑level) assistant park/historic site management work and is responsible for the preservation, protection, interpretation, operation and maintenance of Pedernales Falls State Park. This includes environmental education and community outreach programs, marketing and promotion, organization of special events, customer service, public relations, volunteer management, development and coordination of partnerships, supervision of employees and volunteers, cultural and natural resource stewardship, financial and budget management, revenue management, human resources management, security and safety programs, and maintenance of facilities, grounds, water and wastewater systems, and equipment. Responsibilities Conduct environmental education and community outreach programs. Market and promote park programs and services. Organize special events and coordinate volunteer activities. Provide customer service and public relations. Develop and coordinate community partnerships. Supervise, train, schedule, motivate, and evaluate employees and volunteers. Perform cultural and natural resource stewardship. Manage finances, budget planning, revenue management, and monitor expenditures. Oversee and perform maintenance and repairs of facilities, grounds, water and wastewater systems, and equipment. Work independently with latitude for initiative and judgment. Perform additional duties as assigned. Comply with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Experience: Three years in natural/cultural resource management, interpretation or education, general maintenance, public safety, or promotions/public relations/marketing. One year as a supervisor or team leader. Experience may have occurred concurrently. Licensure: Must possess or obtain a valid Texas class "C" driver’s license within 30 days of employment. Acceptable Substitutions: TPWD employees hired before January 1 1998 with no break in service and at least sixty semester hours may substitute two years of TPWD experience in park management, supervision or operations for the required degree. Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, natural and/or cultural resource management, forestry, biology, anthropology, archaeology, history, or related field. Experience: Two years in customer service. Experience as a park manager, supervisor or team leader. Experience in revenue or budget management. Experience in natural or cultural resource management, general maintenance, public safety, promotions or public relations/marketing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of all phases of park administration and operations. Knowledge of park maintenance and repair practices. Knowledge of public relations and developing partnerships. Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management practices. Skill in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in providing quality customer service. Skill in personnel management and supervision. Skill in conflict resolution and customer service procedures. Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions. Skill in research, development and implementation of interpretive programs and environmental education. Skill in developing community partnerships. Skill in training and developing others. Skill in planning, assigning and supervising the work of others. Ability to resolve conflicts, solve problems and increase productivity while fostering a team environment. Ability to develop marketing and promotional activities and special events. Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to complete correspondence, reports, presentations and special assignments. Ability to handle complaints, emergencies and large groups of people. Ability to communicate with the public in intense situations. Ability to develop and maintain financial systems and accountability of budgets, revenue collections, expenditure systems and purchasing. Ability to interpret and enforce park rules and regulations. Ability to coordinate maintenance, repair, or construction of park facilities and grounds, and maintenance/repair of equipment. Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lb. Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. Working Conditions Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping. 40 hours per week with flexible schedules; work outdoors in variable weather; respond to emergencies and be on call; perform manual labor lifting up to 50 lb; operate a state vehicle; travel 15 % of the time with possible overnight stays; live on site in state housing with monthly deduction of $267.80; conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards; non‑smoking environment.
