Senior Counsel - Litigation

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a litigation attorney to join as Senior Counsel in Chicago, IL. The role involves managing complex insurance claims and high‑stakes litigation cases. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of litigation experience and a passion for delivering exceptional legal services. This position offers a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex insurance coverage litigation and manage multiple cases from inception to resolution in state and federal courts.
• Conduct thorough analysis of insurance policies and coverage provisions to determine coverage and liability.
• Provide strategic legal advice to clients on insurance coverage issues, policy interpretation, and case status reports.
• Handle all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Defend cases in civil litigation and binding arbitration proceedings in both state and federal court.
• Attend court hearings and oral arguments both remotely and in-person.
• Take and defend party, witness, and/or expert depositions.
• Prepare for and mediate cases and/or settlement conferences.
• Mentor junior associates and collaborate with legal staff.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois bar license.
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• At least 5‑7 years of litigation experience in state and/or federal courts.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional writing, organizational, and advocacy skills.
• Strong legal research and analysis skills.
• Superb administrative skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Diligent, driven, and eager to learn.
• Ability to take ownership of work.
