Food Service Worker

The Food service worker supports daily operations by maintaining clean, safe, and organized food service and cafeteria areas. This role focuses on general labor tasks, sanitation, and assisting with the setup, breakdown, and movement of supplies and equipment to ensure a smooth and efficient working environment.

Responsibilities

• Clean and mop floors in food service and cafeteria areas to comply with established safety and sanitation standards.
• Maintain cleanliness of food preparation and serving areas, including walls, refrigerators, meat blocks, and other food prep surfaces.
• Remove trash from work areas and place it into designated containers in a timely and safe manner.
• Steam clean or hose out garbage cans to maintain proper sanitation and odor control.
• Transfer supplies and equipment between storage areas and work areas as needed to support operations.
• Assist with banquet table setup and front-of-house arrangements for events and special functions.
• Support loading, unloading, and delivery of supplies and products to appropriate locations.
• Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment as needed to staff and workstations.
• Follow all outlined sanitation and safety requirements and procedures at all times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of the facility.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform general labor tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving supplies and equipment.
• Experience working in production or food service environments with a focus on cleanliness and organization.
• Strong attention to detail when cleaning and maintaining floors, food areas, and equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions related to sanitation and safety procedures.
• Reliability and punctuality to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Availability to work on Saturday 8/26 for event setup, breakdown, cleaning, and food organization.
• Capability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Comfort using cleaning tools and equipment such as mops, hoses, and steam cleaners.
• Ability to assist with event and banquet setups, including arranging tables and front-of-house areas.
• Willingness to handle trash removal and sanitation tasks in compliance with safety standards.
• Good organizational skills for distributing supplies, utensils, and portable equipment efficiently.
• Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to completing assigned tasks and supporting coworkers.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cafeteria and food service setting with a focus on maintaining sanitary conditions in kitchens, serving areas, and storage spaces. You work primarily Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend event support such as welcome setups and breakdowns. The environment involves regular use of cleaning equipment such as mops, hoses, and steam cleaners, as well as handling trash containers and supplies. Work is active and hands-on, requiring movement between storage and work areas, assisting with loading and unloading, and supporting banquet and front-of-house setups in a busy, service-oriented facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hyde Park, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
