GRADE K-2 TEACHER

Young World Physical Education

Grade K-2 Teacher Start date: Aug 3, 2026 Purpose To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Responsibilities Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters; governs student verbal participation, talk during different types of activities; governs student movement in the classroom; frequently monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently; maintains dignity of the student. Instructional Presentation: The teacher begins lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous materials; introduces the lesson and specific learning objectives; speaks fluently and precisely; presents using concepts and language understandable to students; provides relevant examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks with high rate of success; asks appropriate questions; conducts on brisk pace, slows when necessary; makes transitions efficiently; ensures assignment clarity; summarizes main points at end. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains clear, firm, reasonable work standards and due dates; circulates during class work to check performance; uses oral, written, and other work products; poses questions clearly. Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness to encourage growth; provides prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct oral responses; provides sustaining feedback after incorrect response by probing, repeating, giving a clue, or allowing more time. Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan compatible with school and system‑wide curricular goals; uses diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; uses available resources to support program. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies, rules, and regulations; follows professional development plan. Additional Job Functions Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; must be able to exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; consistently light work. Data Conception: Requires ability to compare or judge characteristics of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication: Requires ability to speak and signal people to convey information; includes receiving instructions. Language Ability: Requires ability to read various correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists; prepare correspondence or simple reports using prescribed format. Intelligence: Requires ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions; interpret technical instructions; handle abstract variables. Verbal Aptitude: Requires ability to record and deliver information; explain procedures; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in technical or professional languages. Numerical Aptitude: Requires ability to use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, divide; use decimals and percentages; apply principles of statistics. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires ability to inspect items for proper dimensions. Motor Coordination: Requires ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Requires ability to handle items such as office equipment and hand tools; requires minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Requires ability to differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires ability to deal with people beyond instructions; adaptable under stress and emergencies. Physical Communication: Requires ability to talk and hear; must be able to communicate via telephone. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well-being of students, especially in inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
