Job Description The Marching Band is a club that is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students at Marple Newtown. The instructor will provide students with a multitude of activities, an opportunity to socialize, and meaningful friendships. Title: Marching Band Color Guard Instructor Units: 8 Location: Marple Newtown High School Number of Positions: 1 Effective: 2026-2027 School Year Qualifications Experience: Working with school‑age students and coordinating and managing events. Skills: Strong managerial, organizational, and communication skills. Education: Valid PA teaching certificate. Ability to work with students of all ability levels. Essential Functions A faculty advisor acts as a liaison between the school administration and the club, providing guidance to student leaders and members. Advisors work with student leaders to plan events and create opportunities for inclusion. Advisors work with program staff to communicate information, support, and build lasting relationships. Advisors will supervise all club‑related events and meetings. Provide instruction to students in color guard techniques, including flag, rifle, and/or sabre work, as well as movement, dance, and body control to support visual performance quality. Lead sectional rehearsals and assist with full ensemble rehearsals outside the school day, including band camp and scheduled practices, teaching and refining choreography and ensuring consistency in visual execution. Collaborate with the Marching Band Director and staff to align color guard performance with the overall show design, including synchronization with music, drill, and field staging. Assist with performances at football games, competitions, and community events, including equipment management, student supervision, and reinforcement of expectations for discipline, teamwork, and safety. Has read and understands obligations as outlined in MNSD School Board Policies. Other duties as assigned by Administration. Frequency of meetings: September – June; meet 1/week for an hour; 8-10 events per year Approximate number of students enrolled: Approximately 40 students Clearances: In accordance with the school code, Act 24 and all related clearances.
