Network Administrator

Position : Network Administrator (Jr Network Engineer)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland (Onsite)

Pay: up to $40/hr

Type: Long-term contract

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM. Every 8 weeks, 1 week on-call rotation

MUST HAVES:

• Authorized to work in the US | 3+ Years of related experience | Bachelor's & CCNA (Preferred)
• Extensive experience Layers 1-4 supporting Tier 2/3 tickets
• Experience with Cisco products

Role Overview

We are seeking a Network Administrator to support a federal enterprise environment. This role involves maintaining network infrastructure and ensuring maximum uptime for critical services. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience in networking and evolving technologies to develop solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative setting, contributing to a team dedicated to supporting scientific discovery and progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Leverage in-person and virtual connections to coordinate work actions to take the burden of IT off customers so they can focus on science.
• Contribute knowledge and experience to the collective pool and help other IT professionals at the institute level.
• Ensure the network infrastructure and the associated internet and intranet services are available with maximum uptime by responding quickly and thoroughly to incidents, requests, and sudden outages.
• Utilize experience with networking and evolving technologies to develop solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and ever-changing enterprise federal environment.
• Have a solid understanding and comprehension of network protocols and switching, including TCP/IP, FTP/ UDP, and VPN, and be able to decipher network topologies.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of network devices such as routers, switches, wireless access points, uninterruptible power supplies, and firewalls.
• Activate and configure switches, routers, NICs, and LAN ports.
• Create network and closet diagrams.
• Use network tools to diagnose, trace, and validate activity on LAN ports, network gear, and endpoints, and be able to read and decipher logs and traffic.
• Be meticulous in documentation showing work performed so that it may be reviewed, recreated, or presented to management.
• Be able to work in a team setting or with other IT professionals effectively in-person or virtually for root cause analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Monitoring Tools (e.g., Sitescope, SolarWinds, Sciencelogic).
• Experience with ServiceNow or Remedy.
• Experience with Infoblox.
