ABOUT THE COMPANY

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-funded, stealth-stage AI infrastructure company founded by UC Berkeley PhDs and professors, with an engineering team that includes veterans from leading data and AI infrastructure companies. The team is building the future of multi-cloud AI infrastructure: a unified control plane that lets teams run and scale AI workloads across any cloud or on-prem environment in a portable, cost-optimized, and highly available way (the Sky Computing vision).

The platform is already used in production at hundreds of organizations, including Fortune 500s and some of the most recognized AI-native companies, and saw rapid adoption growth through 2025. The company has raised double-digit millions and is building a top-tier engineering team ahead of a public launch.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a backend engineer with at least 3 years of industry experience and a strong background in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure. You should be comfortable designing and implementing impactful infrastructure platforms, with a track record of building robust, scalable systems. You will play a central role in shaping the future of AI infrastructure and multi-cloud execution.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

•     Design and build core AI systems that make the platform the standard for multi-cloud, any-cloud execution of AI workloads.

•     Build new components and enhancements that extend support for a wide range of AI and batch workloads.

•     Work closely with users and customers to make their use cases successful, grow the open-source community, and gain visibility for your work through public tutorials, blog posts, and talks.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

•     3+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems.

•     Hands-on experience building or owning distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or systems that orchestrate compute at scale.

•     Strong engineering fundamentals (Python or Go strongly preferred).

•     Experience with cloud infrastructure technologies such as gRPC, AWS EC2 / GCP GCE / Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, and load balancers.

•     Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering from a top-30 program.

•     A generalist who can own systems end to end. This is not a siloed data engineering or ML specialist role.

STRONGLY PREFERRED

•     Experience at a startup or on a high-ownership infrastructure team at a larger company.

•     At least one clear signal of excellence, such as a strong engineering pedigree.

•     Previous founder experience.

•     Visible contributions to relevant open-source projects.

TECH STACK

•     Python, Go, AWS EC2, GCP GCE, Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

•     Base salary: $165K - $265K depending on experience.

•     Competitive equity.

•     Hybrid schedule: 4 days in office in San Mateo, CA, with Fridays remote.

•     Full-time, direct hire.

•     Multiple openings on the team.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

•     Visa sponsorship is available on a case-by-case basis, including transfers and new petitions filed from within the United States.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

•     Technical phone screen (1 hour, over Zoom): a practical, non-algorithmic coding project to implement and debug.

•     On-site work trial (full day): a realistic engineering problem that evaluates day-to-day engineering skills, problem-solving, and tool use.

•     Cultural interview (1 hour): a final conversation with the co-founders on values and team fit.
