Role Description The Electrical Estimator is a full-time, hybrid role based in Brainerd, MN. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for electrical construction projects, substations in particular, including labor, materials, and equipment, in alignment with project specifications and industry standards. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing plans and drawings, performing quantity take-offs, analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotes, and developing competitive bids and proposals. The Electrical Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to refine scopes of work, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support cost control throughout the project lifecycle. The role also involves maintaining estimating databases, staying current with market pricing and electrical codes, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform accurate Electrical Estimating and apply effective Cost Control methods to support project budgeting and bidding.
- Knowledge of Electrical Contracting practices and familiarity with construction management workflows and processes.
- Strong understanding of Electricity principles and safe installation practices in commercial, industrial, and utility environments.
- Background in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and construction-related digital tools.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Relevant experience in electrical construction estimating; prior work on substation, energy storage, or renewable energy projects is beneficial.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and ethical business practices, with the ability to work on-site and adapt to changing project requirements.
