About the Position: The Carpenter (WG-4607-09) serves as a fully qualified journey-level worker responsible for independently constructing, repairing, and maintaining building structural components and facilities. Operating under general supervision, the incumbent plans and executes assignments from blueprints, applying a broad range of skilled trades techniques including carpentry, sheetrocking, painting, plastering, and basic masonry.

• Reviews and interprets drawings, blueprints, and manuals as required.
• Makes preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards and repair requirements.
• Applies the full range of carpentry skills to remove, repair, and install structural components.
• Accomplishes work by measuring and cutting materials to exact specifications.
• Performs a variety of work in related construction trades like sheetrock, roofing, and painting.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision

.Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) CARPENTER ~ without more than normal supervision. Independent layout, fabrication, and structural repair. I am skilled in planning projects from blueprints, maintaining structural integrity, and executing complex multi-trade repairs. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

• PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires considerable standing, stooping, kneeling and bending; works in overhead, stretched,cramped and awkward positions. Works on roofs, ladders and scaffolds. Arm movement isconsiderable when nailing and using certain tools and equipment. Manual dexterity and goodhand/eye coordination is required for delicate locksmithing work. Frequently lifts and carries itemsweighing about 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items.
• WORKING CONDITIONS
  Work is performed both indoors and out. Exposed to a variety of weather conditions, dust and dirt
  while working outdoors. Inside work is usually in buildings that are adequately heated, lighted and
  ventilated. When working from roofs, ladders and scaffolds there is danger of serious injury from falls.
  Subject to noise, bruises, cuts and more serious injuries from hand or power tools; danger of flying
  wood chips and metal splinters; dust and dirt; eye, skin and lung irritation from fumes, solvents or
  paint; back strains from lifting heavy material. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated
  areas. As required, wears protective clothing and equipment.

• This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
