Project Manager

A leading heavy civil and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee complex public works and transportation infrastructure projects across New York City. This role will focus on the delivery of major civil construction projects, including transit, subway, bridge, roadway, tunnel, utility, electrical/signal, and station modernization work. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from preconstruction and procurement through field execution, closeout, and final client turnover. This is a strong opportunity for a Project Manager with experience working on large-scale agency-driven work, particularly with clients such as the MTA, NYCT, DOT, DDC, Port Authority, or similar public infrastructure agencies. Key Responsibilities Manage all phases of heavy civil construction projects, including planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, closeout, and post-construction. Oversee project budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, change orders, subcontractor agreements, and owner billing. Work closely with Superintendents, Project Engineers, Safety teams, Quality teams, schedulers, and field personnel to drive project delivery. Manage project schedules, lookaheads, critical path activities, and recovery plans in coordination with field leadership. Lead subcontractor procurement, scope review, contract negotiation, coordination, and performance management. Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, design changes, and contract documents to ensure scope compliance. Coordinate with public agencies, inspectors, consultants, design teams, utility companies, and third-party stakeholders. Support design-build, bid-build, and complex phased construction projects in dense urban environments. Monitor project risks and proactively resolve issues related to cost, schedule, safety, quality, logistics, and stakeholder coordination. Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, quality procedures, environmental requirements, and agency specifications. Lead project meetings, client updates, subcontractor coordination meetings, and internal reporting. Mentor and support Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and administrative project staff. Project Types This role would suit someone experienced across complex infrastructure projects such as: Subway station upgrades and ADA accessibility improvements Rail and mass transit infrastructure Tunnels and underground construction Bridge rehabilitation and structural repair Roadway and highway improvements Utility relocation and subsurface infrastructure Electrical, signal, and communications systems Flood resiliency and transportation modernization work The target environment includes highly technical New York City infrastructure work, including design-build transit upgrades involving station improvements, elevators, ramps, civil work, electrical/communications systems, architectural finishes, platform upgrades, and utility relocation. Requirements 7+ years of construction experience, with at least several years in a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer capacity. Heavy civil, infrastructure, transportation, transit, bridge, tunnel, roadway, utility, or public works experience strongly preferred. Experience working with public agencies such as MTA, NYCT, NYC DOT, DDC, Port Authority, Amtrak, LIRR, Metro-North, or similar. Strong understanding of cost control, scheduling, change management, subcontractor management, and contract administration. Ability to manage complex logistics, phased work, night/weekend operations, shutdowns, and work in active public environments. Experience with union labor, self-perform work, subcontractor coordination, and agency reporting requirements. Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and claims avoidance. Proficiency with project management and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and client-facing skills. #J-18808-Ljbffr
