Environmental Outreach Specialist

Full-Time Environmental Outreach Specialist HRPDC is seeking applicants for a full-time Environmental Outreach Specialist. As part of the Environmental Education team, the successful candidate will support the development, coordination and promotion of regional environmental education and outreach initiatives across Hampton Roads. The Environmental Outreach Specialist assists with community engagement, communications, program administration, and event coordination that advance regional environmental awareness and behavior‑change campaigns. The role works closely with internal program staff, local government partners, consultants, and community stakeholders to help deliver effective and engaging public outreach programs. Qualified applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. Responsibilities Assist with the coordination and implementation of askHRgreen.org regional environmental programs, including promotional campaigns, community grant programs, K‑12 grant programs, and community/business recognition programs. Support ongoing management of websites, social media platforms, and digital outreach content. Create content for websites, newsletters, news releases, social media, advertisements, presentations, and other outreach materials. Coordinate development of engaging outreach materials including graphics, flyers, brochures, presentations, stickers, promotional items, etc. Procure, distribute, and maintain inventory of all promotional materials and outreach supplies. Assist with developing and delivering engaging presentations and outreach activities to various community audiences, helping translate environmental topics into accessible messaging. Monitor and help track program activities, outreach metrics, engagement analytics, and campaign performance data. Qualifications Work effectively as part of a team and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Work collaboratively with team members, local partners and stakeholders. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues and representatives from other agencies and the public. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Serve as a public-facing representative for regional environmental initiatives at community events, presentations, media opportunities, and outreach activities. Appropriately manage multiple tasks and manage time to meet deadlines; strong attention to detail, follow-through and organization. Provide administrative support for monthly committee meetings (assisting with logistics planning, agenda preparation, and meeting summaries). Maintain program records, databases, and reporting systems to support outreach activities and program evaluation. Support the administration of online training platforms (e.g., resetting accounts, updating content, running reports). Perform procurement tasks in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
