The Critical Care Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team at Monroe Carell Jr. Childrens Hospital at Vanderbilt is a specialized & CAMTS* accredited team that is responsible for providing the highest level of care in ground and fixed wing transport to patients requiring the resources at the childrens hospital. The transport team consists of highly trained and qualified respiratory therapists registered nurses and EMTs that use their specialized knowledge and training to provide a well-rounded approach to patient care. Being a registered nurse on the transport team provides the opportunity to not only enhance clinical skills but also plays a crucial role in improving patient outcomes during critical moments. *Commission of Accreditation of the Medical Transport Systems Provide critical care to neonatal and pediatric patients during ambulance and fixed wing transport. Assess patients and use established transport protocols to treat patients medical conditions. Critically thinks and adapts to changing environment of transport while providing patient care. This position is for a registered nurse who will be based out of the Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Teams Clarksville Base after completion of orientation to the team and functions of the role. - CAMTS Accredited Requirements:
3 years experience in Pediatric ICU/CCU/ER or NICU Relocation Terms:
- Up to $10000 (taxable) within 45 day of hire based on geography
- Must relocate from greater than 100 miles
- The relocation bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past one year. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess patients to identify clinical needs.
Initiates and manages patient care per protocol during ground and fixed wing transport:
Use of medication pumps
Advanced cardiac monitoring
Initiating respiratory treatments and all modalities of respiratory support (NC HFNC BCPAP BIPAP MV)
Supporting the RRT with use of High Frequency Ventilation and Nitric Oxide
Performs Intubations
Performs Needle Decompressions
Insertion of Low Lying UVCs
Trouble shoot transport equipment
Work the Registered Respiratory Therapist and EMT on transport to provide patient care.
Run blood gases and glucose checks per POCT guidelines and interpret results. Maintain competencies required by institution department and CAMTs.
Collaborate with receiving units at MCJCHV and referring facilities to coordinate patient transport.
Knowledgeable in nursing role and able to perform those duties within scope of practice to patients during transport.

Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patients care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patients progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.

Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs identify distinct tasks set priorities schedule activities meet deadlines and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems ask questions and to contact the patients primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral treatment or other primary care pathways.
Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully search for evidence to answer clinical questions. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
