Job Description:

Assists the professional nurse in creating a milieu therapeutic for hospitalized patients with behavioral/emotional disturbance.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
2. Graduate from an approved school with an Associate Degree in Mental Health Technology or two years of college in Psychology or related field.
3. BLS required.
4. Demonstrates proficient interviewing techniques and empathic interactions appropriate to the emotional wellbeing of the patient.
5. Ability to plan and organize work and to work under close supervision. Willingness to accept responsibility for patients and their care when performing designated functions of this position.
6. May be required to rotate shifts and units.
7. Physical requirements:
8. a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
9. b. ability to hear (with or without aides);
10. c. ability to orally communicate;
11. d. good manual dexterity;
12. e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally;
13. f. ability to stand, walk frequently;
14. g. ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently;
15. h. ability to perform CPR; and
16. i. must be able to physically hold and restrain patients.
