Stepdown Registered Nurse | Cornelius, North Carolina

Take on a pivotal role in a newly established Progressive Care Unit (PCU) designed for growth and innovation. This contract assignment calls for an experienced Registered Nurse ready to contribute to compassionate, high-acuity care for adult patients on a 12-bed medical-based PCU. The unit focuses on conditions such as CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, and other complex needs including established ventilator and tracheostomy care, dialysis, and cardiac rhythm management.


Schedule/Hours:

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00am-7:00pm or 7:00pm-7:00am
• 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling cycle (may increase if needed)
• Holiday rotation: 75% of holidays during your contract
• Self-scheduling with manager approval

• Active RN license and BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 2 years recent PCU experience (first-time travelers accepted with 5+ years PCU experience)
• Proficiency with EPIC EMR
• Competence with IV starts, wound care, central lines, NG tube insertion, drips (including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin with Endotool), and lab draws (no phlebotomy support)
• Willingness to learn vented patient care/Precedex drips if no prior experience
• Patient ratios of 1:4

• Deliver high-level care for adults with cardiac, respiratory, and metabolic conditions
• Perform all nursing duties including lab draws, wound management, and patient education
• Monitor cardiac rhythms directly (no tele tech)
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including CNAs, hospitalists, anesthesia, and RT
• Float as needed within regional facilities and adapt to varied PCU and MedSurg settings

• Team includes dedicated CNAs, charge nurse, and strong ancillary staff support
• Modern technology: Alaris pumps and Omnicell med dispensing
