FT Academy Trained Officer

Job Description The Brigham and Women's Hospital Police & Security Department is seeking qualified FT MPTC Academy Trained POST Certified Officer candidates to join their team of public safety officers. BWH provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital regulations and maintaining active, continuous vigilance. As a BWH officer, you will respond to, and when necessary, initiate investigations involving complaints and/or possible criminal conduct. The BWH officers work under the authority of a special state police along with the proper State of Massachusetts POST Certification. Applications must possess the ability to enforce appropriate Massachusetts General Laws as needed, utilizing power of arrest or by seeking criminal complaint as needed. The Brigham & Women's Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Minimum Requirements Must have successfully completed a FT MPTC Police Academy. Must have MA POST Certification. Must be able to receive Massachusetts State Police Officer (SSPO) designation and maintain such designation by completing all requirements. Minimum of an Associate's Degree in criminal justice is required. A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice is preferred. At least two years of police, security, or related experience is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts's Driver's License. Must submit to, and pass, an initial and annual criminal background check. Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department): First Responder Annual In-Service Training, as currently provided by the MPTC Narcan (Naloxone) Training AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days) Additional Qualifications Exemplary customer service and communication skills. Strong risk analysis and organizational skills. Reliable and flexible. Ability to address problems of all types. Must be able to gather and analyze evidence, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects. Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Fluency in more than one language is preferred. Responsibilities Identifies criminal offenders and illegal activity. Intervenes in and evaluates situations involving actual or potential criminal misconduct. Responds to crime scenes; searches for, collects and preserves evidence; interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects; conducts appropriate investigative activities. Participates in assisting victims of workplace violence or domestic violence. Attends court as required and is prepared for court appearances. Operates department vehicles as needed. Responsible for promoting crime prevention. Monitors access control responds to calls for service, as necessary. Conducts investigations of incidents and writes investigative reports. Ability to make independent decisions based on general instruction, department guidelines and Massachusetts General Law. Performs Risk Screenings and Risk Assessments as needed.
