POSITION: SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (to create a pool for anticipated vacancies)

REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR AND CAMPUS ADMINISTRATOR

CONTRACT PERIOD: 187 DAY 10 MONTHS

SALARY: LOCAL PAY GRADE: AQJ SALARY RANGE: $63,655 - $68,165

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The mission of the Special Student Services Department is to render all possible support and assistance to professionals and paraprofessionals who teach children with special needs. We will facilitate student growth through the integration of academic, psychological, physical, developmental and social learning. The department seeks to promote standards of excellence and innovation in special education practices and policies in order to foster exceptional teaching for exceptional children. The expectations below are designed as minimum job expectations for the position of Speech-Language Pathologist.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS:

Master's degree in Communication Disorders

• Certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association
• Licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology
• Ability to complete evaluations and generate reports in a timely manner
• Basic knowledge of curriculum expectations
• Ability to handle and resolve unexpected challenges
• Ability to interact professionally with administrators and parents
• Ability to organize information/data for teacher use
• Be able to problem-solve in a variety of situations
• Exhibit flexibility with schedule
• Maintain composure in stressful situations
• Operate within defined parameters when required
• Follow RISD policies and procedures at all times

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build capacity at the campus level as it relates to understanding the speech, language, and academic needs of students
• Facilitate quality speech-language evaluations and therapy in all areas relevant to credentials and training
• Keep abreast of current issues and trends within the area of speech-language pathology and special education evaluation
• Provide notification of evaluation results to campus staff and administration a minimum of five days prior to the scheduled ARD
• Meet with campus administration and staff as needed
• Participate in the ARD process as determined by the special education department
• Assist campuses in accessing department resources
• Provide recommendations for appropriate strategies to support student speech and language development
• Attend trainings that align with position expectations
• Maintain current knowledge of special education laws and regulations
• Maintain appropriate records with consistent entry of data electronically as directed
• Address teacher concerns/questions/issues in an informative manner
• Build mutually beneficial relationships with campus staff
• Provide campus updates to Special Education Coordinator and/or Campus Administrator upon request or as needed
• Coordinate with Special Education Coordinator and/or Campus Administrator to determine priorities/ schedule
• Assist department administration in being innovative and responsive to the needs of students and staff
• Develop and facilitate relevant training sessions as needed
• Participate in other duties as assigned
