Location Highlights Byron offers access to outdoor recreation and regional attractions in northern Illinois. Byron Forest Preserve spans more than 700 acres and includes the Jarrett Prairie Center, while Lowden State Park is about 20 miles away and overlooks the Rock River. The city is about 15 miles from Rockford and roughly 95 miles from Chicago, giving travelers access to dining, entertainment, and a larger airport while staying in a quieter small-town setting.
