Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting surgical teams in various procedures including General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, OBGYN, Podiatry, Urology, and Dental. This role requires preparation and maintenance of the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process. The position demands strong technical skills, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication within the surgical team. On-call duties and weekend rotations are part of the role. Responsibilities:

• Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff during procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
• Maintain sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols.
• Ensure all surgical instruments are accounted for before and after surgery.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond promptly to surgical emergencies.
• Assist with patient positioning and preparation prior to surgery.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure efficient and safe surgical procedures.
• Complete mandatory state training and comply with hospital policies.

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• State of Iowa Mandatory Reporter Training.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to stay within 30 minutes of the facility when on-call.
• Experience in surgical technology across multiple specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, OBGYN, Podiatry, Urology, and Dental.

• Surgical Technologist Certification.

• Position includes on-call rotation approximately one night every two-week pay period.
• Weekend on-call rotation approximately every 5th to 6th weekend.
• Holiday call rotation is required.
• Must remain within 30 minutes of the facility during on-call periods.

• Primarily 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
• Shift start times may fluctuate based on surgical case load, as early as 6:00 AM.
