- Leads students through curriculum planning and registration each semester; develops processes and methods for maintaining accurate records and utilizes existing records to inform advising practice.
- Effectively facilities advising sessions by engaging students holistically and inviting students into the advising process.
- Provides guidance to students on progress towards graduation.
- Understands, communicates, and explains requirements, policies, procedures, and the use of student-facing technologies (Degree Works, SAGE, Athena, etc.)
- Responds to student needs and provides targeted support related to student decision-making, exploration, and development.
- Collaborates with students to integrate degree progress, interests, and abilities into future planning.
- Solicits and uses student feedback to assess student needs and enhance personal, unit, and campus-wide advising practice.
- Demonstrates consistent, streamlined, and strategic communication while maintaining professionalism and clarity.
- Finds and uses advising-related information, reports, and data to enhance personal, unit, and campus-wide advising practice.
- Proactively and effectively communicates and interprets university requirements and specific degree requirements to students, as well as University and unit-specific policies and procedures.
- Actively utilizes theories about advising, student development, and learning cognition in advising philosophy and practice.
- Uses Degree Works with orientation students to document degree selection, course registration and college resources.
- Provides information about co-curricular opportunities (Co-op, Internships, Study Abroad, Graduate Studies, faculty-led research, etc.) and special services as per students' specific needs.
- Serves as a point-of-contact for degree support and enhancement activities that extend/augment the educational opportunities associated with engineering undergraduate degree programs.
- Intentionally manages time and calendar to ensure accessibility to students and meet unique student needs.
60 Duties/Responsibilities Campus Participation
- Facilitates collaboration with members of the College of Engineering for improvement of programs.
- Attends staff meetings, professional development seminars, yearly UGA advising workshops, and other student support related meetings; serve on various campus committees; complete the Academic Advising Certificate Program.
- Represents the College of Engineering at on-campus recruitment events and related meetings.
15 Duties/Responsibilities Communication
- Demonstrates consistent, streamlined, and strategic communication while maintaining professionalism and clarity.
- Speaks knowledgeably about campus resources; makes proactive and direct referrals based on individual students' situations, needs, or interests, then follows up on the outcomes of the referrals.
- Demonstrates nuanced understanding of resources across campus and related referral processes by tailoring recommendations to student goals, program of study, personality, etc.; actively contributes to the development of resources or programming to meet unique student needs.
- Demonstrates flexibility, accessibility, and creativity in communication to meet student needs.
10 Duties/Responsibilities Administration
- Performs administrative activities, such as answering student and staff emails, scheduling meetings and networking opportunities and working on projects to benefit the advising office.
- Contributes to the development of and implements administrative initiatives, projects, or programs as prescribed.
- Develops processes and methods for maintaining accurate records and utilizes existing records to inform advising practice.
