Outside Sales Representative

American Book Company is seeking a dedicated, mission-driven Outside Sales Representative to spearhead our growth across Virginia. As a company rooted in educational excellence, we provide high-quality resources designed to help students and educators succeed.

The Role

You will serve as the face of American Book Company, building lasting relationships with schools and districts. This is a high-activity role that balances autonomy with strong organizational support.

• Relationship Building: Conduct an average of 40 face-to-face visits per week to educational institutions.
• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with our Inside Sales team to map out efficient routes and outreach strategies.
• Conference Presence: Represent the company at educational conferences, managing booth setups and lead generation.
• Expert Knowledge: Stay ahead of legislative actions, educational trends, and product updates to serve as a consultant to your clients.

What We're Looking For

• Educational Background: Previous experience as an educator is strongly preferred. You speak the language of our customers.
• Industry Familiarity: Knowledge of American Book Company resources is a significant plus.
• Tech Savvy: Ability to manage leads and documentation via our CRM (Sprocket) with high accuracy and a 24-hour turnaround.
• Road Warrior: Comfort with consistent travel throughout Virginia.

• Competitive Pay: Base salary plus a commission structure.
• Travel Reimbursement: Mileage reimbursed at the standard federal rate.
• Expenses: Company credit card provided for travel-related expenses (lodging and food), with meal reimbursements following federal per diem guidelines.
• Training: Comprehensive initial and ongoing training covering product knowledge, sales techniques, and CRM management.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend weekly sales meetings (typically Fridays) via voice conference or webinar.
• Submit all customer contact annotations and requests in the CRM within 24 hours.
• Participate in monthly progress meetings to review territory growth and visit metrics.
• Manage conference leads and follow-ups within 5–7 business days.
