Job Summary The Rockville City Police Department is recruiting entry‑level police officer candidates. The department, nationally accredited and serving approximately 70,000 residents, works in partnership with Montgomery County Police. Officers respond to calls, perform routine service, maintain public safety, and apply federal, state, and local laws within all city neighborhoods. Minimum Qualifications Be a United States citizen, or be a permanent legal resident of the US who is an honorably discharged veteran of the US Armed Forces with a pending citizenship application. Possess at least a high school diploma or a GED recognized by the State of Maryland. Be at least 21 years old at the time of graduation from the police academy. Hold a valid driver’s license. Be able to pass a written police examination. Possess good moral character and pass an in‑depth background investigation, including polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screen. Be able to obtain and maintain the minimum requirements of the Maryland Police Training Commission. Potential Disqualification Factors Poor work history. Poor driving record. Felony or misdemeanor conviction that carries a sentence of imprisonment for one year. Illegal drug use, purchase, sale, or distribution. Falsification of any application documents. Inability to complete COMAR requirements set forth in the selection process. Any other disqualifying factor as determined by the Chief of Police. Recruitment Process

1. Complete the online application and submit before the posted closing date.
2. Selected applicants will be notified to attend a written examination; a score of 70% or higher is required.
3. All applicants will take a standard physical agility test; a minimum passing score in each category is required.
4. Candidates invited to interview will undergo a comprehensive background check, including medical, drug, polygraph, and psychological screening.
5. Interviewed candidates will meet with the selection panel and then the Police Chief.
6. A contingent offer of employment will be made upon satisfactory completion of all testing.
7. An official 12‑month probationary period will begin upon completion of all mandatory training.

Training and Probationary Period After all mandatory testing, new officers will begin a 12‑month probationary period and attend the Maryland Entry Level Police Training Academy followed by a 14‑week Field Training Program. Job Functions Conduct patrols on foot or by vehicle, and observe and act on traffic violations, suspicious activity, or disturbances. Respond to calls for assistance to protect lives and property. Investigate and gather evidence with other agencies and the State Attorney’s Office. Coordinate crime‑scene investigations, manage resources, interview and counsel victims, and transport evidence to the lab. Write reports and citations. Make arrests and protect rights of accused and public safety. Detect traffic violations and issue warnings or citations to maintain public safety. Respond to traffic accidents, obtain proper assistance, investigate causes, and issue citations. Inspect assigned vehicle and equipment daily and report defects. Maintain personal equipment in proper order. Assist in crime‑prevention efforts as directed. Participate in in‑service and special training programs. Perform duties related to special assignments.
