The Position
The Mental Health Worker Aide is a key position for the Children's Mental Health Division. This position will be critical in assisting children and youth who are experiencing severe mental illness. The Mental Health Worker Aide is also considered a Parent advocate who focuses on case coordination, coordination of funding sources, transportation, and interpretation on behalf of monolingual Spanish speaking families. This position will also be assisting therapists in the Children's Full-Service Partnership unit by helping families connect and advocate with different services in the community. The ideal candidate for this position will have personal experience in accessing community mental health resources and services. This experience can increase the effectiveness of engaging people who are interested in accessing and receiving mental health services and improve overall wellness and recovery. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one Extra Help. Extra Help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part-time and full-time employees.
The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future extra help vacancies for up to one year.

Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Experience: None required. Directly related work experience or personal experience as a recipient of mental health services or as a family member/caregiver of a former or current mental health recipient is highly desired.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License. *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

Provide family with parent support; accompany parents to planned meetings for the family's needs, as appropriate; provide information to help parents understand their child's condition; connect parent with local resources and make appropriate and adequate referrals to other services as needed; model professional and positive parent/professional collaboration with all individuals involved; assist families in advocating for their child's educational, medical and mental health needs; assist families in learning skills to advocate on their own behalf; provide transportation and interpretation for parents and other family members as appropriate; perform as a member of the FSP expansion family team to ensure that the family's desired outcomes are addressed in their family plan; participate, coordinate, or facilitate family team meetings; attend trainings, conferences and seminars related to the role of the parent advocate and engagement services as directed by the supervisor. Participate in community outreach to inform community of available children's mental health services. Engage community through health fairs, informational sessions and other community events that assist in promoting mental health education to underserved and not served populations in the county of Napa. Writes timely documentation of clinical progress notes. Knowledge and competence using computer databases.
