About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred, CCRN a plus Must-Have: Minimum of 3-5 years of CVICU experience Description: The unit consists of 20 private, monitored beds. Nurse-Patient Ratios vary from 1:1, 1:2, to 2:1 depending on patient acuity. Common diagnoses include post open heart surgical patients, CABG, Valves, Dissections, AAA, and other cardiovascular conditions. Patients may require care for conditions such as cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure, and post-transplant recovery. Specialty intervention equipment utilized includes IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, and external pacemakers. Nurses are expected to administer and titrate multiple drips, including dopamine, dobutamine, and vasopressin. Charge nurses are present 24/7, and they may take on assignments. Patient care technicians assist with ratios varying from 1:12 to 1:15. Respiratory therapists are available in the unit around the clock. Nurses are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips, although monitor techs are available. Shifts are fixed and do not allow for self-scheduling. There is a requirement to work every other weekend and every other holiday. Floating to other levels of care may be necessary, and travelers are expected to handle a full patient team. There is no specific dress code for scrubs, but they must be appropriate in appearance. The unit seeks a nurse proficient in cardiovascular ICU practices. Experience with temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and ventilated patients is desirable. Critical thinking, strong assessment skills, and the ability to work in a high-stress environment are essential.
