Board Operator (On Call/Fill In)

Position Overview Bonneville Sacramento is seeking a skilled, dependable Board Operator to operate the technical side of broadcast operations. The Board Operator will manage the studio console to ensure a clean, polished on-air presentation that meets FCC requirements and delivers reliable, error-free terrestrial radio and digital media programming. What You Will Do Maintain accurate transmitter and program logs, air commercials per program logs, air emergency alerts, record satellite feeds, and confirm transmitter operation according to FCC parameters. Verify studio equipment is functioning before going on air, troubleshoot technical problems, and report malfunctions. Become an expert with the audio console, Adobe Audition, Audacity, and Zetta. Edit and post podcasts and coordinate music and sound for assigned shows. Cross‑train and maintain working knowledge of all board operator shifts, filling in for teammates as needed. Assist talk show producers with content creation for social media and organize “best of” broadcasts. Screen phone calls and maintain a positive rapport with staff, management, and clients. Collaborate with producers to create, organize, and broadcast content under typical on‑air deadlines. Complete management‑assigned responsibilities on a regular and/or rotating basis. Skills And Experience Reliable, dependable, flexible, and able to work weekdays, overnights, and weekends, including on‑call shifts requiring arrival within two hours. High school education or equivalent. Demonstrated accuracy, follow‑through, and multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet on‑air deadlines. Understanding and execution of station format philosophy, collaborating with others to create a distinctive sound. Open to direction and flexible with changes. Clear, accurate communication with co‑workers and management. Willingness to accept responsibility and resolve varied problems under moderate supervision. Ability to handle pressure and deliver content on time to protect company image and audience satisfaction. Team player with a professional appearance and demeanor. Preferred: Experience operating broadcast equipment, live sports broadcasting, coordinating remote connections, 1+ year commercial broadcast experience, proficiency in Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or Audacity. Physical Demands Effective oral and written communication. Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for computer operation; prolonged computer use. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Compensation $20.00 – $22.28 per hour. The exact hourly rate will be determined based on education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
