Mental Health Clinician II

Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) invites applications for a Mental Health Clinician II to serve as an Intake Clinician within the Addictions Program. The clinician will provide lead functions for screening of intakes, referrals, care coordination, completion of program‑specific documentation, comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention for adult individuals (18+). The role also involves developing treatment plans, diagnosing and facilitating individual, group, and family therapy, providing case management, and supervising licensing candidates. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of UBHC’s vision, mission, and values and consistently adhere to policies. Provide assessments and ongoing therapeutic services with empathy, flexibility, and sound clinical judgment. Complete admission paperwork, assessments, evaluations, treatment or recovery plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries consistent with UBHC standards. Lead orientation, training, and team leadership within the department. Participate in supervision and consultation, integrating supervisory material into practice. Contribute to program development within the department. Serve as a senior practitioner responsible for the completion of all Intakes for the SUD Program. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in mental health discipline plus two (2) years of post‑Master’s experience delivering psychotherapeutic services to adults, or a Doctorate Degree. Certifications and Licensure Independent license to practice as required by New Jersey state laws (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist). Dual license with an independent license by discipline and a LCADC. New Jersey certification/licensure for Social Work holders (State Board of Social Work). For gambling specialties: active International Certification in Gambling Counseling (ICGC). Physical Demands and Work Environment Clear verbal communication and proficient written communication required. Implementation of universal precautions and safety precautions. Extended sitting required for treatment and documentation. Exposure to moderate noise (office equipment, light traffic). Potential for medical and psychiatric crises. Possible exposure to patients with assaultive behaviors. Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens, requiring personal protective equipment. Exposure to varying or extreme temperatures. Community outreach may involve personal vehicle use across and outside the county. Special Conditions Position requires completion of all intakes for the SUD Program. FLSA status: Exempt. Immunization Requirements Successful completion of pre‑employment immunization screening is required. Vaccination against Seasonal Influenza may be required if employment commences during flu season, unless a medical or religious exemption is granted.
