Job Responsibilities
The Assistant Chief of Police provides strategic leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the Midlands Technical College Police Department (MTCPD). This position plans, directs, and evaluates departmental operations to ensure effective law enforcement services, campus safety, emergency preparedness, and community engagement across the college. Coordinates and oversees special events, security operations, and critical incident response activities while ensuring compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Plays a key leadership role in crisis management and emergency response planning, directing operations during critical incidents and supporting the overall safety and security of the MTC community. Serves as the Police Chief in the absence of, or as directed by, the Chief of Police, assuming responsibility for all aspects of departmental administration and operations. This includes oversight of personnel management, training initiatives, budget administration, policy development, crime prevention strategies, and organizational planning. The Assistant Chief fosters positive relationships with students, employees, and community partners while promoting professionalism, accountability, public trust, and a safe campus environment. This position is based on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus. Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. The ideal incumbent will have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent education in criminal justice, public administration, business, or related discipline, plus 10 years of experience, to include no less than three (3) years of law enforcement executive supervisor experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public law enforcement agency. Certification by the SC Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976. Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge and experience managing South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation.
