Job Description

Duties

• You will serve as a firefighter who works to control and extinguish fires, rescue persons endangered by fire, and reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards.
• You will respond to fire and hazardous materials incidents; detection of the presence of hazardous materials, secures the area, identify the hazardous material, control further spills mitigating further danger and coordinating clean-up procedures.
• You will perform combat fires and rescue personnel on ships and vessels. by suppressing wildfires using heavy-duty vehicles/equipment, and/or constructing fire lines in hazardous conditions.
• You will initiate established medical protocols in providing basic life support.
• You will perform the following Technical Rescue functions: rope, vehicle and machinery, confined space, structural collapse, and wilderness.
• You will comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
• You will select and apply the proper techniques or procedures for fire suppression and emergency situations.
• You will maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Performs functional tests and inspections.

• Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements:
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license
• You will be required to wear a uniform and use all safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment and personal fire protection equipment during your work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and will fall under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR and First Aid certification.
• This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoD 6055.06M to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This is a developmental position to full performance GS-07. This position may be filled at the GS-05 or GS-06 with promotion to the GS-07. If selected for this position you may be promoted to the target level without further competition.

Qualifications GS-07 : Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; and 5) Performing basic and routine medical procedures. GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade. 2)Performing rescue operations as a team member 3) Operating pumps, foam generators, and other similar equipment. ***All of the above positions require the incumbent to possess certifications GS-07: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT).These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. GS-06: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, First Aid Provider (FAP), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. GS-05: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations.
