Senior Systems Administrator

Overview The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is hiring for a Senior Systems Administrator in the IT Department. General Summary: Under the general direction of the IT Systems Manager, the Senior Systems Administrator oversees the implementation, management, and optimization of critical IT infrastructure for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. This position is responsible for ensuring system reliability, security, and performance and provides leadership and expertise to support complex technology environments. Description of hours and wages: The pay range for this position is $88,623 to $118,764 per year. Pay typically begins at the minimum of the pay range, and employees are eligible for annual merit and COLA increases per District policy. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, storage systems, and critical enterprise applications. Oversees system security protocols, backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and compliance initiatives. Proactively monitors system performance, troubleshoots complex technical issues, and implements preventive measures to minimize downtime. Provides advanced technical support and mentorship to IT staff and stakeholders. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support integration and optimization of IT resources across the District. Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation of system architectures, configurations, and operational procedures. Leads and participates in strategic technology planning and projects, aligning system enhancements with organizational objectives. Ensures District compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes and District Policies and Procedures. Stays abreast of current and future trends in Information Technology, Library Administration, and Public Administration, and makes recommendations regarding future District Strategies and Planning. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education: Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Preferred: N/A Experience: Required: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in systems administration, with at least two (2) years in a senior or lead capacity. Preferred: N/A License or Certification: Required: Possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Driver’s License at the time of hire. Preferred: Relevant professional certifications (e.g., MCSE, Linux+, VMware). Physical Requirements: Essential and marginal functions may require standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5–10 pounds) and moderate lifting (12–20 pounds); occasional heavy lifting or moving (50–100 pounds); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; continuous operation of hand or power tools to exacting tolerances; and standing or utilizing a keyboard for extended periods. Requires occasional after-hours availability for system maintenance and emergency response. Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of server platforms (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization technologies, storage solutions, and cloud computing (e.g., Microsoft Azure). Knowledge of security practices, backup technologies, disaster recovery, and performance monitoring tools. Skilled in leadership, analytical problem-solving, and communication.
