Controller

We are seeking an experienced Business Unit Controller to serve as a key member of both the Accounting and Leadership teams within a high-growth operating company. This individual will be the primary finance partner to business leadership, providing timely, accurate, and actionable financial information that supports strategic decision-making and operational performance.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that requires a strong balance of technical accounting expertise, financial analysis, team leadership, and business partnership. The ideal candidate will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also influencing leaders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

• Lead the accounting and finance activities for the business unit, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Participate in and oversee critical components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Analyze financial results and provide meaningful insights to business and corporate leadership.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP requirements.

Business Partnership

• Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Business Unit Leadership Team.
• Partner with operational leaders to support strategic initiatives, profitability improvement, and business growth.
• Assist leadership in developing annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
• Provide financial analysis and decision support for key business initiatives and customer opportunities.

Accounting Operations & Controls

• Oversee accounts receivable collections and working capital management initiatives.
• Review and supervise weekly accounts payable activities.
• Manage revenue recognition and project/job accounting activities to ensure accurate financial results.
• Maintain a strong internal control environment and support process improvement initiatives across the organization.
• Partner closely with corporate accounting leadership to ensure consistency in accounting practices and financial reporting.

Audit & Special Projects

• Support external audit activities and assist with requests from auditors and corporate leadership.
• Participate in ERP enhancements, process improvement projects, and other strategic initiatives.
• Perform ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Business Unit Finance leadership role.
• Experience supporting operational business leaders in a fast-paced environment.
• Construction, project-based, manufacturing, distribution, or service industry experience is a plus.
• Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is highly desirable.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
