About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Staff Med/Surg Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of six months to three years in nursing (RN) experience; Five plus years of direct experience preferred License: Current NYS RN License Certifications: BLS Certification required Must-Have: Med/Surg experience; Epic experience preferred Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury. The RN alleviates suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Job Responsibilities: Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients. Serves as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse depending on unit assignment and factors related to safety and effectiveness. Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources. Utilizes knowledge of pharmacology and administers medications safely according to policy. Shares in the responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management. Complies with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements. Actively participates in shared governance by supporting unit initiatives and contributing to peer review practices. Engages in professional development and completes all mandatory education requirements. Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice. Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Follows organizational values. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Experience: Management experience of zero to three years preferred. Collaboration and communication (verbal and written) skills are required. Judgment and critical thinking abilities are necessary. Strong organizational skills, including planning and time management, are essential. Problem-solving skills are required. Quality, reliability, safety, and risk management skills are needed. Preferred Skills and Experience: Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting is preferred. Required Education: A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing is required. Preferred Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is preferred. Preferred Certifications and Licensure: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is preferred. Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) may be required based on unit assignment.
