Senior Litigation Attorney - Personal InjuryLos Angeles, CaliforniaAn expanding Los Angeles law firm is in search of a seasoned Litigation Attorney to join its plaintiff-side Personal Injury division.This opening is ideal for a lawyer comfortable with independently handling significant cases while also having access to seasoned attorneys, dedicated support staff, and substantial opportunities to participate in trials. The attorney will supervise cases throughout the litigation process - from initial case evaluation and strategy to discovery, depositions, mediation, settlement negotiations and trial preparation.ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility will be overseeing a portfolio of personal injury cases at various stages of litigation. The individual will collaborate with clients, paralegals, case managers, and other attorneys to develop case strategies, assess damages and liability, manage discovery, prepare cases for resolution, and progress suitable cases towards trial.• Develop litigation strategies and manage cases from filing through trial.• Assess potential cases for liability, damages, settlement potential, and litigation strategy.• Draft complaints, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.• Handle written discovery and resolve discovery disputes.• Prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial.• Conduct depositions.• Identify, secure, and prepare expert witnesses.• Conduct legal research and develop arguments on complex liability and damages issues.• Represent clients in proceedings such as mediations, hearings, and conferences.• Negotiate settlements and engage in alternative dispute resolution.• Prepare cases for trial, including motions, witness examinations, exhibits, and trial materials.• Work closely with clients on treatment, case development, expectations, and litigation strategy.• Supervise and collaborate with assigned paralegals and legal support professionals.• Assess medical records, treatment recommendations, and relevant evidence for damages.• Evaluate liens, insurance issues, and other considerations affecting case resolution.• Assist other attorneys with hearings, appearances, and trials as needed.The practice deals with various personal injury cases, including auto accidents, premises liability, uninsured motorist claims, and cases involving employment or workers' compensation overlaps.QualificationsThe ideal candidate is an experienced California litigator with a strong legal background, sound judgment, and the ability to establish trust with clients.• Juris Doctor and active California Bar membership with good standing.• Approximately 7+ years of experience at a personal injury law firm.• Extensive civil litigation experience.• Knowledge of California litigation procedures, discovery, and deadlines.• Proficiency in assessing liability, damages, and case values.• Demonstrated ability to negotiate settlements effectively.• Experience in depositions, both taking and defending.• Capability to independently develop cases and get them trial-ready.• Familiarity with medical records, medical treatments, and expert witnesses common in personal injury cases.• Understanding of insurance, liens, and issues affecting personal injury cases.• Strong research, writing, advocacy, and client communication skills.• Ability to manage multiple cases while focusing on strategy and deadlines.• Experience supervising paralegals and support staff.• Knowledge of workers' compensation issues is a plus.• Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not mandatory.Why Join Us?This is an opportunity for a seasoned litigator to become part of a well-established plaintiff practice with the resources to handle cases thoroughly and gain courtroom and trial experience.
