Supervisory Information Technology Specialist

Responsibilities If selected for this position, the Systems Manager is responsible for independently planning, designing, executing, and supervising Information Technology (IT) programs, projects, and work involving a variety of IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of the District. Typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to: Supervision: Planning, organizing, assigning, directing, scheduling and evaluating the work of all employees in the unit; Designing, documenting, developing, testing, installing and implementing new applications software; Planning and designing new and improved information systems to meet the needs of customer requirements; Performing oversight of a wide range of information technology support tasks associated with day‑to‑day operation of the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) IT systems to meet USAO information needs utilizing network hardware and software capabilities; Maintaining district‑wide responsibility for testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, maintenance and management of networked systems used for the transmission of information in data, voice and/or video format; Ensuring IT systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency; Ensuring the confidentiality and security of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies and procedures. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Conditions of employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Qualifications Individuals must meet both: The Basic Requirement through either Experience or Education; AND The Specialized Experience at the grade level you are applying for as described below. Basic Requirements Experience that demonstrated each of the four competencies below; the experience must be IT‑related. Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, certification), as appropriate. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. To qualify at the GS‑13 grade level you must meet basic qualifications by demonstrating at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized Experience Performing duties such as using information technology concepts, methods, standards and practices to evaluate and resolve hardware and software problems; planning and improving information systems to meet the needs of customer requirements; planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems and applications software; monitoring functionality, security and integrity of internet services; assessing IT policy needs; establishing metrics to measure, and evaluate system performance; troubleshooting end user computer hardware and software issues; maintaining systems accounts with various enterprise software programs; providing for customer training including orientation of new users; maintenance of server and LAN/WAN activities; maintenance and troubleshooting of network problems in various office locations.
