Assistant Director of Development

That's why academic medicine, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge, is at the center of everything we do at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for qualifying and disqualifying prospective donors, as well as cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic gifts ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 in support of research, education, community engagement, and patient care initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, this role plays a key part in acquiring and retaining entry- and mid-level donors, while strategically advancing them along the major gift pipeline.

This position is a remote. All remote work must be performed within one of the MCW registered payroll states, which currently includes: WI, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, TN, TX, and UT.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Understand the mission and philanthropic priorities of Froedtert Hospital Foundation, and Medical College of Wisconsin. Works collaboratively across the organization and departments to build relationships with benefactors, prospects, friends, and organizational leaders. Comprehensive understanding of the strategic research, education, community, and patient care priorities.

  • Build and effectively manage a portfolio of mid-level prospects and donors with a highly relational lens. Qualifies prospects and works collaboratively with colleagues within the Office of Institutional Advancement to expand the base of donors supporting MCW and Froedtert Hospital priorities.

  • Pursue giving opportunities that align priorities with donor interests and the overall strategic priorities of Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Hospital Foundation, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Creatively develop and implement innovative strategies for the successful qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts.

  • Partner and collaborate with the philanthropy team to elevate and transition prospects to relationship managers based on capacity and confirmed inclination.

  • Utilize predictive data analytics, assess prospects, and develop and execute strategies to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of prospects.

  • Ability to inspire prospective benefactors, articulate organizational priorities, strategically present and solicit philanthropic opportunities and close gifts.

  • Make persuasive verbal and written cases for supporting these key priorities, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific projects and programs needing support and ensure effective stewardship of donor relationships.

  • General understanding of principles and techniques associated with planned giving and estate gifts.

  • Review and ensure overall accuracy of her/his portfolio in database. Record proposals and actions about prospects and donors in a timely fashion in Raisers Edge database.

  • Accountable to annual individual performance goal metrics as well as strategic goals and objectives of department.

  • Focus on employing digital tools to interact with donors, but there will also be opportunities for in-person meetings.

  • Connect with constituents through phone, email, mail, local in-person meetings, Zoom meetings, LinkedIn, Gratavid videos, and other industry communication tactics.

  • Solicit and close gifts up to $25,000

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced deadline-oriented team environment. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex environment and embrace challenges.

  • Demonstrated analytic and strategic thinking capabilities. Experience with fundraising database software and Microsoft Office, including Excel.

  • A highly developed ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information related to both alumni and donors, as well as employees.

  • Comfortability and ability to record videos for donors and talk to donors via video software such as Zoom.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 1 years of experience in relationship management with externally facing constituents.

Preferred Education: Master's degree

Preferred Experience: 2 years; preferably in philanthropy. Internet research, database query and reporting experience. Experience in Development/Advancement setting.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.

The target salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,400 annually. The final offered salary will depend on the applicant's education, experience, skills, and knowledge, as well as considerations of internal equity and market alignment.
