Job Description POSITION TYPE: Jr. High Teacher (Middle Grades) • POSITION GUIDE: Certified Personnel • WORKS: Nine (9) months • Non-Exempt, Bargaining Position • Assistant Principal • REPORTS TO: Principal (Assistant Principal) • RELATES TO: District Administrators; Program Coordinator; Student Service Coordinator; Special Service Coordinator; Other faculty and staff; Parents‑PTA‑and‑Community Groups. SALARY: Salary and Benefits in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of School Inspectors of School District 86, Will County, Illinois, and the Council #86 of the American Federation of Teachers‑Local 604. Maximum 10 years of full‑time certified teaching experience. Application deadline posted until filled. JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the classroom teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and to develop competencies and skills for successful functioning in society.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSE:

Professional Educator License with and/or Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science Endorsement or required endorsement. Demonstrated leadership, public and community relations, and academic competence. Effective behavior management skills. Ability to structure a classroom to maximize student learning. Effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of course outlines, curriculum, and texts used.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implement all district policies as they relate to the classroom. Ensure equal opportunity for all students. Develop and implement lesson plans for the assigned curriculum program. Follow state and district guidelines when presenting subject matter. Use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and equipment that address differentiation and accommodations. Use data to drive instructional decision‑making. Collaborate with grade‑level and content area teams to plan and modify curricula. Cooperate with staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods per state and district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, student teachers, and volunteers when applicable. Incorporate technology actively in teaching and learning. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits. Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing. Model a positive role that supports the mission of the district and school. Create an effective learning environment that supports physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage classroom behavior using appropriate techniques and district requirements. Maintain professional competence through in‑service professional development. Requisition instructional materials and supplies as needed. Attend required meetings including faculty and parent‑teacher conferences. Prepare for, conduct, and attend parent‑teacher conferences. Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day. Administer group standardized tests per state and district protocols. Participate in curriculum development programs as required. Commit to ongoing professional development. SUPERVISORY ROLE: Students, paraprofessional (if applicable), student teachers, and volunteers; activities in various school settings. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills; clear and concise oral and written communication; composition of correspondence, reports, and other written materials; reading, analyzing, interpreting information; presenting information and responding to inquiries; courtesy, tact, and respect. MATHICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY: Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; identify, define, collect data, analyze, establish facts, draw valid conclusions. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Maintain confidentiality; promote a harassment‑free environment; establish effective relationships and teamwork; learn office equipment, computers, software; work well under pressure; comply with all laws, regulations, policies; work independently with minimum supervision; prepare and maintain accurate files and records; meet strict deadlines. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; occasionally lift up to 20 lbs; near, distance, and focus vision required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Quiet to moderate noise indoors, occasional outdoors; constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; requires on‑district and out‑of‑town travel for training and duties.
