Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Linux Engineer to manage and support enterprise Linux infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for server provisioning, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and security compliance. The role requires strong Linux administration skills and the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues in a production environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Linux servers running RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or SUSE.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch operating systems across development, testing, and production environments.
- Manage user accounts, groups, sudo access, SSH keys, and file permissions.
- Troubleshoot Linux server issues related to CPU, memory, disk, network, and application services.
- Manage LVM, partitions, filesystems, swap space, RAID, and filesystem expansion.
- Configure and troubleshoot system services using systemd and journalctl.
- Perform package installation and updates using YUM, DNF, and APT.
- Monitor server health, resource utilization, system logs, and application availability.
- Configure and troubleshoot DNS, NTP, SSH, NFS, FTP/SFTP, and network connectivity.
- Manage disk space, inode utilization, mount points, and storage connectivity.
- Implement OS hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security patches.
- Develop shell scripts to automate repetitive system administration tasks.
- Support backup and recovery operations and disaster recovery testing.
- Troubleshoot boot failures, kernel issues, service outages, and performance bottlenecks.
- Participate in incident management, problem management, and change management.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, operational procedures, and technical knowledge bases.
Technical Skills Required
- Operating Systems: RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu.
- Linux Administration: User management, process management, services, permissions, cron, systemd.
- Storage: LVM, RAID, NFS, filesystem management, disk partitioning.
- Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, SSH, firewalld, iptables.
- Troubleshooting: top, vmstat, iostat, sar, ps, free, df, du, dmesg, journalctl.
- Scripting: Bash and basic Python.
- Package Management: RPM, YUM, DNF, APT.
- Monitoring: Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools.
- Security: SELinux, access controls, patch management, SSH security.
- Automation: Basic knowledge of Ansible and configuration management.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting high-availability production environments.
- Knowledge of VMware or KVM virtualization.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to Azure infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Git and infrastructure automation tools.
- Experience with ITIL-based service management processes.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- RHCSA or RHCE certification is an advantage.
Candidate Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot critical production issues independently.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a 24/7 support environment and participate in on-call rotations when required.
