Manufacturing Technician III - Packaging Mechanic (Nights)

Position Summary The Manufacturing Technician III (Packaging Mechanic) reports to the Supervisor or Manager on the Manufacturing floor, supporting Packaging operations. The role involves set up, changeover, repairs, and preventative maintenance for all equipment used in production processes across Classified/Non-Classified areas. The technician performs mechanical and electronic troubleshooting to ensure optimal equipment performance, provides basic mechanical training to Packaging Technicians, and serves as a resource for continuous improvement projects. This position operates on a 3‑4 schedule: Wednesday‑Friday then Tuesday‑Friday from 6 pm‑6:30 am. Primary Responsibilities Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance tasks on packaging equipment, including picker, sorter, labeler, packer, checkweigher, printer, inspection equipment, palletizer, stretch‑wrapper and conveyors. Work collaboratively with technical resources to resolve equipment issues and provide first‑line technical support to production technicians. Resolve equipment‑related issues such as machine startup, recipe selection, recipe format setup, sensor troubleshooting and production issues. Proactively monitor equipment and perform preventative maintenance, identifying and investigating abnormal conditions and potential defects to prevent unplanned downtime. Perform technician tasks including startup, equipment operation, manual inspection, batch execution, material handling, rework, cleaning, housekeeping and line clearance. Operate light material handling equipment (motorized and manual pallet jacks, non‑motorized lifts) to safely move, store or deliver material. Monitor material quality of incoming, in‑process and finished materials; promptly report concerns to Lead Technician and Manager/Supervisor. Maintain batch records, GMP documentation and CMMS entries; perform mathematical computations as needed. Adhere to safety procedures and hazards, including PPE, ergonomics, LOTO, human safety, material handling, chemical handling and spill controls; report discrepancies to process facilitator. Perform work requirements responsibly in accordance with SOPs, cGMPs and established safety and quality procedures. Other Responsibilities Support lean activities and process improvement, including performing 5S, participating in problem‑solving, and tracking performance data for OEE and process improvement analysis. Act as a certified OJT trainer, providing training and evaluations for other team members. Review process documents such as SOPs, PM procedures, forms and batch records for accuracy and suggest improvements while maintaining cGMP compliance. Execute protocols for equipment qualification and process validation work. Be flexible and support other work areas within the Process Execution Team. Perform all other assigned duties with minimal supervision under the direction of the process facilitator or designee. Minimum Qualifications Experience in a regulated production environment, responsible for equipment maintenance and performance. Strong written, verbal, reading, and communication skills in English. Ability to lift and handle equipment change parts, tooling and materials associated with maintenance and repair. Preferred Qualifications High school graduate, vocational school graduate or equivalent. Minimum three years of experience in a regulated production environment, responsible for equipment maintenance and performance. Associate’s degree in engineering or mechanical trade school graduate preferred. Previous experience with automated equipment. Training in mechanics, hydraulics and electronics systems. Knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system such as SAP. Experience with OEE, TPM, LEAN or other continuous improvement methodology. Work Schedule 12‑hour shift 6 pm‑6:30 am, 3‑4 schedule: Wednesday‑Friday, Tuesday‑Friday. The schedule listed reflects the expected schedule at the time of hire.
