Process Engineer

About the Role SSOE is hiring a Junior Process Engineer to support chemical and food-industry projects from early-phase engineering through construction and commissioning. The role develops PFDs/P&IDs, process calculations, equipment specifications, and supports field work (up to 30% travel) while coordinating with multi-discipline teams and clients. Job Description Role Junior Process Engineer supporting chemical and food-industry projects from inception through construction and commissioning. The role includes development of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process calculations, equipment selection and specifications, and continued support during construction and start-up. Key Responsibilities Develop and complete engineering calculations, reports, and deliverables. Prepare and review PFDs and P&IDs, equipment specifications, and procurement documentation. Coordinate with multi-discipline engineering and design teams to complete project tasks. Support sanitary design including clean-in-place (CIP) and clean-out-of-place (CtolOP) systems. Participate in process-layout reviews addressing sanitary routing, equipment access, cleanability, cross-contamination risk, allergen segregation, utility distribution, drainage, and constructability. Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, equipment information, and field installation for conformance with project requirements. Assist in creation of bid packages and provide construction/start-up support. Perform field work and site surveys, including existing-condition verification, equipment inspection, tie-in identification, and construction/start-up support (travel up to 30%). Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (qualifies for licensure in the state of practice). 4+ years of relevant working experience. Experience with food and beverage GMP plants or related industrial settings strongly preferred. Familiarity with building codes, GMP requirements, and food-safe / sanitary design principles. Experience with utility systems and distribution equipment. Client-facing experience and ability to partner with contractors and vendors. Experience using Pipe Flo or AFT Fathom is a plus. Salary range: $85,000 - $95,000 per year (location, education, experience, and certifications may affect pay).
