Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: No license or background hits Description: RN's must pass an exam during orientation. It is an open book exam based on skills learned. Candidates will be provided with all necessary resources to pass. A score of 90% is required to pass the exam. Failure to achieve this score will result in termination. Candidates must reside outside a radius of 50 miles. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to comply with this policy will lead to termination. BLS and NIHSS certifications are required. The department cares for patients with various medical and surgical conditions. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, and pneumonia. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as heparin and lidocaine. Charge nurses are present on each shift and do take assignments. Patient care techs are available with a ratio of 1:10-20. Tele techs will interpret strips, but RNs should have some tele awareness. Scheduled shifts are from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Travelers will be scheduled with limited block scheduling available. There is a requirement to work every other weekend and 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year. Floating to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients may be required. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue. Mechanical lifts are available in every other room. A focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness is emphasized. The unit typically experiences multiple admissions and discharges in one day. Successful nurses demonstrate good attendance, teamwork, and compassion for patients. The unit serves a diverse patient population.
