Accountant II (Opbi) - 60060435
This is a statewide vacancy – position location will be determined by selected candidate location. The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency's mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Economic Self Sufficiency (ESS) Program helps to promote strong and economically self-sufficient communities by determining eligibility for food, cash and medical assistance for individuals and families on the road to economic recovery. Under the ESS Program, the Office of Public Benefits Integrity (OPBI) is responsible for investigating public assistance fraud or misuse regarding the SNAP (Food Assistance), TANF (Cash Assistance), and Medicaid programs by individuals or merchants.
Accountant II – Position 60060435 – ESS OPBI Benefit Recovery Program This is not a telework position. The selected candidate will be required to work at closest office location. Some travel may be required. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Business hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST. The incumbent is a member of the DCF D-SNAP Disaster Response team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and travel in support of disaster relief. During such events, incumbent may be required to work more than 8 hours per day.
Minimum requirements: Must be a current Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) employee. Preference will be given to candidates with the following: Experience in DCF Economic Self-Sufficiency determining eligibility for government assistance benefits. Job duties and responsibilities: The primary function of an Accountant I Lead within the Office of Public Benefits Integrity specifically in the Benefit Recovery (BR) Program is the application of accounting techniques to a variety of fiscal transactions related to the receipt and posting, reporting and analyzing as well as continued maintenance of accounts receivable. This position will assist the Supervisor in daily operations within the Accounting/Compromise/TOP unit and act as support for the Accountants in their job functions. Duties include assisting in fraud investigations and providing support in the recovery of funds lost due to waste, fraud, or abuse. This position is qualified to be exempt from public records. Assigned duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs quality management system reviews as assigned. Reviews case reading errors with the staff; ensures corrections are completed accurately and timely. Reviews and analyzes data from all monitoring sources and provides training in the areas in which problems are identified. Conducts mentoring sessions with staff to support performance improvement. Assists the supervisor in handling and resolving internal and external customer inquiries and complaints. Provides policy interpretations as requested or assigned Follows established office procedures which may include updating and maintaining tracking mechanisms Handles TOP and Lottery related phone calls from external clients inquires and maintains voicemail retrieval scheduling for Accounting staff Completes and monitors all required daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly Accounting reports within required time frames Maintains and develops professional knowledge and skills by participating in supervisory performance conferences, staff meetings, mandatory training, and workshops as assigned or required.
