About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN - Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 1900-0730, every other weekend and holiday (can also work 48 hours) Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: Active Registered Nurse license required Certifications: BLS NIHSS Must-Have: Majority of cardiac experience 1 year of Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN experience Experience with titrating drips Description: The unit primarily cares for a patient population with cardiac conditions. Common diagnoses include: pre/post catheterization, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs, congestive heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, and hematology. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:5-7 during the night shifts. Nurses will care for an average of 6 patients at night. Nurses will be expected to titrate drips, including insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and furosemide. Nursing staff will have access to monitor technology for patient observation. Charge nurses will have some patient assignment but will predominantly act as a resource for other nursing staff. Nurse aides are available, averaging 1 for every 9 patients during day/evening shifts and 1 for every 14 patients overnight if full. Treatment options available include: continuous CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest physiotherapy, but no ventilators are utilized. Floating to other medical/surgical floors may occur, and staff may float outside of their usual areas based on patient needs. Nursing staff are expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance in scrub attire. There is no self-scheduling; however, attempts are made to accommodate block scheduling. Every other weekend and holiday shifts are required. Agency staff are not placed on-call. Staff may be scheduled in 4-hour blocks, so reallocation may occur based on staffing needs.
