About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/Tele RN - Infusion/Oncology Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day, Evening Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Acute care experience with comfort in managing complex patients. Experience with titrating drips and monitoring patients. Preference for prior travel experience. Description: This position is in a 27-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 during the day/evening shift and 1:6 at night. On occasion, if working short-staffed, the ratio may rise to 1:7. Common diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical conditions, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and weakness. No prior oncology or chemotherapy knowledge is required. Nurses are expected to be comfortable managing and titrating drips such as insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide. Blood transfusion experience is also necessary. Centralized telemetry technicians monitor and read strips; nurses are not required to read their own strips but should be tele-aware. A charge nurse and house supervisor are present on all shifts. The charge nurse has a modified patient assignment during days and nights. Nurse aides are available on the unit, with ratios of 1:7-9 during the day/evening and 1:14 overnight. Respiratory Therapy oversees multiple units and is in-house 24/7. Scheduling requests can be accommodated, but block scheduling cannot be fully guaranteed. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements consist of two out of three during winter and every other holiday at other times. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating may occur within med-surg units, limited to observer needs or task assistance. Scrub colors are flexible, with no logos from other health systems. All clinicians are required to clock in and out during their shifts.
