Senior Project Accountant

About the Role An established real estate development organization is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join its growing accounting team. This role will be responsible for the financial management and accounting of multiple development and construction projects, partnering closely with project managers and operational leaders to support accurate reporting, cost control, and successful project execution. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on accounting professional with construction or real estate development experience who enjoys working in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the full-cycle accounting for multiple construction and development projects Maintain project budgets, job cost tracking, and cost allocations Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, project reports, and account reconciliations Perform budget-to-actual and variance analysis to support project performance and cost control Prepare construction draws and assist with project funding activities Review construction contracts, commitments, and change orders to ensure proper financial recording and compliance Partner with project managers to monitor project costs, forecasts, and financial performance Support month‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation as needed Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Construction accounting, project accounting, or real estate development accounting experience required Strong understanding of job costing, project budgets, and construction financial reporting Experience with construction draws, contract accounting, and change order processing Familiarity with AIA billing formats (G702/G703) preferred Experience tracking and analyzing project costs, including general conditions and project overhead expenses Strong general ledger, month‑end close, and financial reporting experience Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs CPA or CPA‑track preferred Compensation & Benefits Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
