Some 71 percent of Oxy studentsreceive some form of financial aid; 20 percent are Pell Grantrecipients; and 19 percent are the first in their family to attendcollege Title Athletic Trainer Department Athletics Duration Indefinite - 10 Months Employment Status Exempt, Full Time Job Summary Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine,the Athletic Trainer assists with executing the duties andresponsibilities of providing exceptional athletic training relatedmedical services for Oxy’s varsity student-athletes participatingon 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports teams in theSouthern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(SCIAC). Job Duties 70% - Direct student-athlete care, including: design andimplement effective and high-quality programs for the prevention,evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athleteinjuries and illnesses; educate and counsel student-athletes abouttheir injuries and illnesses; provide medical services, includingurgent and emergency care, during practices and competitions; applyprotective taping, bracing, and padding for student-athletes;execute all processes related to student-athlete medicalclearances; travel with teams for away competitions, as deemednecessary by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. -(Essential) 20% - Administrative responsibilities, including: execute thedaily operations in the athletic training room and the servicesprovided by the sports medicine staff; coordinate referrals toappropriate medical providers and specialists; maintain timely andaccurate documentation relating to student-athlete medical records,sports medicine services, and athletic training room functions;coordinate and process insurance claims related to intercollegiateinjuries; communicate and collaborate effectively andprofessionally with sports medicine staff, team physicians,coaches, administrators, and other Athletics department staff;communicate with parents, when necessary; provide timely updates tocoaches regarding the status on, and treatment plans for,student-athletes; - (Essential) 10% - Enforce safety procedures; ensure the maintenance of theathletic training room; including cleaning, disinfecting, andorganizing all equipment, tools, and furnishings; manage inventory;order and organize supplies and equipment; serve on Athleticsdepartment and College groups and committees, as deemed appropriateby the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine; participatein continuing education opportunities; maintain good standing withthe NATA Board of Certification; perform other duties as assignedby the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. -(Essential) Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, kinesiology, exercisescience, sports medicine or other fields related to positionresponsibilities. National Athletic Trainer Association certification in goodstanding. Current CPR & AED certification. Possession of an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy andphysiology, and medical terminology. Some experience in college level sports and athletics. Demonstrated working knowledge of, and ability to implement,the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of injuryprevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply and comply withthe rules and regulations of the College, the SCIAC conference, andNCAA Division III. Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and presentfindings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel,PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, WebEditing, and social media applications or any combination ofproductivity programs applicable to position responsibilities. Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity, and emotional intelligencewhen working with patient. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough;skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems andhandling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy. Strong commitment to a quality work product. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, inwriting and electronically. Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability tocollaborate with a variety of constituencies. Demonstratedcommitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity. Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing workeffectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidentialenvironment with multiple and changing priorities. Effective organizational, logistical, time management andplanning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multipletasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functionsof an office in a timely manner. Ability to self-motivate and work independently. Ability to provide effective leadership and training, and towork effectively and professionally across functions, disciplines,levels, and with diverse groups. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, exercisescience, kinesiology or related fields. Two years of athletic training experience at the collegiatelevel. EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $58,586.67/yr If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your finalbase salary compensation will be determined based on factors suchas skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. Inaddition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable payequity laws and considers internal equity among current employeeswhen developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the rangementioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring atthe maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow forfuture and continued salary growth.
