Volunteer at Oakland (Madison): Juneteenth BBQ Celebration

Description:

Madison is seeking volunteers to support a one-time Juneteenth BBQ celebration for residents and families. Volunteers will help create a fun and welcoming event by assisting with setup, serving food, distributing raffle tickets, monitoring children’s activities, and helping with cleanup.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 , from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Volunteers should arrive at 3:30 PM to assist with setup. The estimated volunteer shift is 2 hours. Street parking is usually available. The community center is located on the second floor, and an elevator is available.

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

Goal of Position:

To support a fun and meaningful Juneteenth celebration that brings residents and families together through food, activities, raffles, and community connection.

Specific Tasks:

1. Assist with event setup before the celebration.
2. Help serve meals to residents.
3. Distribute raffle tickets to participating residents.
4. Monitor children’s activities and help create a safe, welcoming environment.
5. Support general event flow and resident participation.
6. Assist with event cleanup after the celebration.
7. Help return the community space to its original setup.
8. Communicate any supply or support needs to the Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator.
9. Remain friendly, respectful, and supportive when interacting with residents, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

Physical/Age Requirements:

• Able to stand and move around during the event.
• Able to assist with light setup, cleanup, serving, and activity support.

Skills/Education/Experience:

• Friendly, dependable, patient, and open-minded.
• Comfortable interacting with residents, families, children, and staff.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Prior event support, food service, childcare, or activity support experience is helpful but not required.
