Volunteer at Oakland (Kenneth Henry Court): Juneteenth BBQ Celebration

Description:

Kenneth Henry Court is seeking volunteers to support a one-time Juneteenth BBQ Celebration and Town Hall event for residents. Volunteers will help create a welcoming and festive environment by assisting with event setup, decorations, activities for children and adults, food service, and cleanup. This event is being requested based on resident interest and to support a regulatory requirement.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Volunteers should arrive at 2:00 PM to assist with setup. The estimated volunteer shift is 2–3 hours.

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

Goal of Position:

To support a meaningful community celebration that honors Juneteenth, encourages resident participation, and helps create a welcoming space for connection, food, activities, and community engagement.

Specific Tasks:

1. Assist with decorating the community room before the event.
2. Help with event setup, including arranging tables, chairs, supplies, and activity areas.
3. Support activities for children and adults during the celebration.
4. Assist with serving meals to residents.
5. Help keep food and activity areas organized during the event.
6. Support event cleanup after the celebration.
7. Clear tables, collect trash, and help return the community room to its original setup.
8. Communicate any supply or support needs to the Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator.
9. Remain friendly, respectful, and supportive when interacting with residents and guests.

Qualifications:

Physical/Age Requirements:

• Able to stand and move around during the event.
• Able to assist with light setup, cleanup, decorating, and serving tasks.

Skills/Education/Experience:

• Friendly, patient, dependable, and open-minded.
• Comfortable interacting with residents, families, children, and staff.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Prior event support, food service, or activity facilitation experience is helpful but not required.
• English required.
