DENTAL HYGIENIST - ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HEALTH CENTER

Location: Arlington Heights Health Center Department: Oral Health Shift: 8 AM - 4 PM Pay Range: $36.12 - $43.51 per hour Job Summary Provide direct dental hygiene services to the clinic's patients in accordance with the clinic's policies and standards under the supervision of a licensed dentist. Deliver oral hygiene and appropriate services to dental patients, provide oral health information to individuals and groups, and maintain high standards of practice in a healthcare environment. Typical Duties Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based on accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care. Record patient‑hygienist transactions in the patient’s dental record within 24 hours. Deliver preventive care, treatment, and referrals. Provide oral health education and counseling for all center dental patients. Perform clinical oral hygiene services, including prophylaxis, scaling, sealant and fluoride application, in compliance with state law and clinic protocols. Maintain high standards of dental hygiene practice and participate in training and development of the dental team. Integrate patient dental hygiene care with other healthcare professionals involved in the patient's management. Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring dental clinic policies, protocols, and procedures. Maintain Dental Department areas in compliance with infection control, exposure control, and safety policies. Ensure proper disposal of contaminated materials per regulations. Organize and present preventive oral health sessions on‑site and off‑site. Assist with the dental quality assurance program. Provide technical assistance and health education in the community as requested. Perform delegated procedures in accordance with state regulations and dental protocols. Demonstrate respectful, dignified attitude toward patients and staff. Fulfill state‑required continuing education credits and professional development activities. Comply with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, including personnel, safety, public health and confidentiality regulations. Counsel patients on dental, medical, and other health issues affecting well‑being. Perform clinically appropriate and economically feasible procedures within scope and skill. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Dental Hygiene (must provide official transcripts at interview). Licensed to practice Dental Hygiene in Illinois (must provide proof at interview). Unrestricted license and current CPR certification (must provide proof at interview). Comprehensive knowledge of oral hygiene care in an outpatient setting. Degrees awarded outside the United States (except U.S. territories and Canada) must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service (NACES or AICE). Original credentials must be presented at interview. Preferred Qualifications Previous direct patient care experience within a healthcare center, dental clinic, or hospital setting. Bilingual ability. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics Advanced knowledge of dental hygiene methods and their application. Advanced knowledge of electronic health records. Skill in motivating and tactfully obtaining patient cooperation. Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with healthcare professionals. Ability to handle dental instruments and materials with dexterity to prevent injuries. Physical and Environmental Demands This position operates within a healthcare environment and requires adherence to all safety requirements, including personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, engineering and work‑practice controls, and other safety precautions as specified by hospital policy and departmental procedures. Veteran Preference Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served ≥ 6 months of continuous service.
