CNC Lathe Set-Up Technician in Torrance, CA — $25.00–$32.00/hr DOE, 1st or 2nd shift, contract-to-hire. Set up and run CNC lathes for precision components.

THE BASICS

Pay: $25.00–$32.00/hr, depending on experience

Shift: 1st shift starts at 6:00 a.m.; 2nd shift starts at 2:00 p.m. Your recruiter will confirm workdays and end times before submission.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The setup matters as much as the cut. This job puts both in your hands.

Set up CNC lathes and turning centers, prepare tooling, and inspect the parts you produce. You will follow manufacturing documentation and make program or offset adjustments to keep work within specification.

This is hands-on production work around operating machinery. Expect extended standing and repetitive hand movements; discuss the specific shift schedule and material-handling demands with your recruiter before submission.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Set up and operate CNC lathes and turning centers for precision components

- Install tooling, inserts, collets, fixtures, and offsets

- Read blueprints, GD&T, routers, and setup sheets

- Edit and verify CNC programs and offsets

- Perform first-article and in-process inspections

- Measure parts with micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, comparators, and dial indicators

- Troubleshoot dimensional issues and monitor tool wear

- Record production and inspection results

WHAT YOU NEED

- At least 2 years of CNC lathe machining experience

- Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T

- Experience holding tight tolerances in production machining

- Hands-on experience with precision inspection equipment

- Working knowledge of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining parameters

- Ability to set up equipment and troubleshoot machining problems independently

NICE TO HAVE

- Aerospace manufacturing experience

- Experience with stainless steel, Inconel, titanium, or alloy steels

- Familiarity with Fanuc controls or multi-axis CNC lathes

- Exposure to SPC or Lean manufacturing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand for extended periods, handle materials and tooling, and bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive hand movements while working safely around CNC equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Machine shop conditions include noise, vibration, cutting oils and metalworking fluids, moving equipment, and airborne particles. PPE is required and provided, and all plant safety procedures apply.
