Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Summary The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $71,750 annually. Postdoctoral position available to study mechanisms of vascular biology, lung injury and lung fibrosis in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The Knipe Lab is looking for a hard‑working and enthusiastic post‑doctoral candidate to work on a funded project investigating mechanisms of endothelial cell dysfunction in the context of fibrosis in the lungs. The project involves both animal modeling of lung disease (mice) and in vitro cell culture work with human microvascular endothelial cells. The project is well‑situated to generate high impact publications, presentations at conferences, and to prepare the post‑doc for a long‑term career in academia or industry. Core Requirements Ability to apply scientific expertise and judgement to design, execute, analyze and document in vitro and in vivo studies to define the role of endothelial dysfunction and vascular permeability in the development of fibrosis. Hands‑on expertise in molecular biology and in vivo disease models. Track record of significant contributions to research projects and scientific publications. Ability to work independently as well as part of a highly collaborative team. Education & Experience Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, or a related discipline with 0–1 year of relevant post‑graduate experience. Skills & Abilities Mouse handling, husbandry and disease modeling, including dissection and tissue harvesting (required). Experience with multiple routes of drug delivery (a plus). Aseptic technique and in vitro culture of mammalian cells (required). Experience with primary cell isolation (a plus). Experience with 3D cultures (desired but not required). Proficiency with molecular biology techniques including western blotting and qRT‑PCR (expected). Exposure to basics of histology and microscopy including widefield and confocal imaging (a plus). Exposure to flow cytometry and cell sorting (a plus). Exposure to large data set analysis and/or bioinformatics (a plus). Location Onsite work at 75 Francis Street (Massachusetts General Hospital).
