Job Details Job Location: 051 Katy Westfield Plaza - Katy, TX 77449 Position Type: Full Time Job Shift: Any The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values. Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours. Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use our Guest Services script based on the division in which they serve. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business. Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices. Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode. Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment. Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month. Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest. Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required. Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest. If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure you make the legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs. Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards. Issue receipts and any change due. Accurately count change back to the guest; do not just hand a wad of bills and change to the guest. Bag or box merchandise. Use bags only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders or use boxes; bottle protectors are not required for every bottle. Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible. Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet. Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance. Keep the work area clean and neat and do not overstock the counter with merchandise. Count down the drawer at the end of shift and prepare the final drop. Answer questions and provide information to guests. Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect. Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present. Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor. Stock shelves and check price tags as needed. Monitor the checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock. Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed. Carry out directives of management efficiently. Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail. Practice teamwork and cooperation with others. Possess time‑management skills and be able to prioritize tasks. Must be able to manage stress in a fast‑paced environment. Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests. See product and payment methods. Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA. Other projects and tasks assigned by management. Yes, you may have to clean the restroom. Attendance and timeliness are required. It is hard to run the register from home. Education or Experience We’d prefer you to have cashiering experience, but if you’re willing to learn, we’re willing to teach you. We’d like you to have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED), but sometimes experience is the best education. Language Skills We need you to be able to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. You must be able to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus. Mathematical Skills You need the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Must be able to calculate discounts and percentages. We can provide a calculator. Demeanor and Personal Skills Smiley, friendly, helpful. Must be responsible, reliable, and committed to providing extraordinary service. Patience, friendliness, and an outgoing personality are needed for success. A self‑starter with a strong work ethic who completes job assignments in a timely fashion and then looks for the next task. Hours Full‑time is typically 35 hours per week. Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week. Part‑time is up to 25 hours per week. We schedule for the needs of our business. Working outside of your scheduled time without District Manager approval is prohibited and subject to discipline. You cannot decide to make up hours after a night out unless approved by the District Manager. Reasoning Ability Must apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Certificates, Licenses Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and, in some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit. The TABC course takes 2‑3 hours to complete; we will pay you for your time spent in the course up to 3 hours. Spec's will provide a link to the course and login information after the hiring process is complete. We will deduct the cost of the course from your paycheck ($8), so you do not need to pay for the course up front. Physical Demands This job regularly requires standing, walking, and bending; use of arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift; climbing and balance; communicating and understanding. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Must be able to push and/or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must attend the mandatory scheduled shifts as determined by management. Work Environment and Environmental Conditions We provide a fun and positive environment in which to serve our guests. You may be exposed to outside weather conditions while delivering extraordinary service. The noise level is usually moderate. Qualifications Previous experience in retail or customer service preferred. Familiarity with cash handling procedures. Knowledge of basic math for cash transactions. Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette.
