This role provides physical presence and hands-on support across two data centers, one corporate office, and a Gas Control work recovery center. The successful candidate will perform day-to-day network engineering duties while developing into the team's subject matter expert for Versa SD-WAN.This role combines traditional network engineering responsibilities with a strong site-technician function — you are the hands and feet for Houston when remote resolution isn't possible. You will work closely with our Network Operations Center (NOC) in Canada, receiving escalations that require local physical intervention, while also contributing to network projects, maintenance, and SD-WAN evolution across the broader enterprise.What you'll doServe as the primary on-site resource for all Houston network facilities (two data centers, corporate office, and Gas Control work recovery center)Respond to hardware failures, outages, and escalations requiring physical interventionPerform rack-and-stack activities for network equipment installations and replacementsExecute cable management, patching, and physical layer troubleshootingProcess hardware RMA returns and coordinate replacements with vendorsProvide console access for device recovery when remote management is unavailableEscort vendors and contractors requiring access to network infrastructureMaintain accurate physical documentation of network environments (rack elevations, cable records, port mappings)Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches across data center, campus, and WAN environmentsSupport and develop expertise in Versa SD-WAN platform administration, configuration, and troubleshootingMonitor network health and performance using SolarWinds Orion and respond to alertsMaintain network documentation and asset records in NetboxSupport Sierra modem deployments and troubleshooting for remote connectivityParticipate in network change management activities including maintenance windowsTroubleshoot and resolve network incidents escalated from the NOCSupport OT/SCADA network infrastructure on an as-needed basis when escalatedWork with the NOC team (Canada-based) to receive and action escalations requiring Houston physical presenceCollaborate with corporate network teams, server/infrastructure teams, and facilities managementCoordinate with Gas Control operations staff regarding work recovery center network readinessDevelop deep expertise in Versa SD-WAN with the goal of becoming the team's subject matter expertContribute to standard operating procedures, runbooks, and knowledge base documentationParticipate in post-incident reviews and contribute to root cause analysisMinimum QualificationsMinimum 4 years of experience in network engineering or network operationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related fieldA combination of education, certifications and experience may be consideredPreferred QualificationsStrong hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching (campus, data center, and WAN)Solid understanding of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs, spanning tree, QoSExperience with network monitoring and management platforms (e.g., SolarWinds)Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network issues across L1–L3Experience performing physical network tasks: rack-and-stack, cabling, hardware replacementFamiliarity with SD-WAN concepts and architecturesStrong documentation habits and attention to detailAbility to work independently with minimal supervision at remote sitesCisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalentVersa SD-WAN experience or certification (VNSP or similar)Experience with Netbox or similar IPAM/DCIM toolsExposure to OT/SCADA network environmentsExperience supporting data center network infrastructureExperience with cellular/modem-based connectivity (Sierra Wireless or similar)Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)Experience with network automation or scripting (Python, Ansible)Prior experience in energy, utilities, or pipeline operations environmentsThis position requires candidates to:Participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours network supportOccasional after-hours or weekend work for critical infrastructure events outside the regular on-call rotation (infrequent; estimated 1–2 occurrences per year)Lift and carry network equipment weighing up to 50 lbsStand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods during physical site workWork at heights using ladders for overhead cabling and equipment installationWork in data center environments with controlled temperature, elevated noise levels, and confined spacesPerform repetitive tasks such as terminating cables and mounting equipment in racksTo remain competitive, support our high-performance culture and allow for more flexibility in the way we work, we offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for our eligible office-based workforce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. #LI-HybridAbout our businessWe are a leader in North American energy infrastructure, spanning Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
